People of Downtown: Courtney Townsend

Tell us a little about yourself! Or how would you describe yourself?

I am a simple person. I love my two dogs Holly and Hudson. I volunteer at my church. I love to travel around the world and experience new things. I am very shy until you get to know me.

What’s your idea of happiness?

Discovering your purpose and living it out.

How are you connected to Downtown Cape Girardeau?

I grew up in this town and the downtown area is somewhat nostalgic for me. I can still ring the doorbell of Port Cape’s window and get hand dipped ice cream, just as I did in grade school. Someone is always playing music at the riverfront or groups of people chatting. Some of the same shops are still there, but now there are even more options. It’s great to meet friends in the area, or come support them during live music or art exhibits. I feel more connected now with social media and the newsletters.

What do you love about our community?

I love how supportive the community is. Even though Cape is growing, it still has that small town aspect. I love that I run into people I know everywhere.

What would you like to see added or improved downtown?

Better parking. (Psst - Check out the new options the Downtown Trolley provides including stops at 7 of the downtown parking lots!)

What’s your motto?

“Why not?” or “Just go for it”

Besides Downtown Cape, where’s your favorite place to be?

My favorite place is on my deck with a cup of tea reading a new book.

What is one thing most people don’t know about you?

I lived overseas during my younger years (1-4) and spoke German quite well, although now I don’t hardly remember but a few phrases.
