The classic television comedy ‘Parks and Recreation’ may have wrapped up almost 5 years ago, but the grand tradition of honoring the women in your life started by Leslie Knope carries on in Galentine’s Day. This celebration of your best girlfriends is traditionally celebrated on February 13 and involves brunch and platonic friendship. This year the holiday falls on a Thursday which really cuts down on your downtown brunch options, so I recommend planning your celebration for the weekend. In honor of Galentine’s 10th year, here are your breakfast and brunch options in downtown Cape Girardeau:
Baristas: Bonus points for the swanky Marquette Tower atmosphere. Breakfast is served all day, every day.
Bon Bon’s: These folks on Water Street take cinnamon rolls to a whole new level, and their full breakfast menu and charming atmosphere make this a must-eat-at new spot.
Gabriel’s Food + Wine: This luxe brunch is available on Sunday mornings only.
Mary Jane’s Bourbon + Smokehouse: More than smoked meats, the brunch at Mary Jane’s runs every weekend from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Minglewood: Order up a Bloody Mary and a breakfast pizza – Sundays only!
Port Cape: Serving up stick-to-your-ribs breakfast favorites on Water Street with ice cream for dessert.
Sands Pancake House: It doesn’t get any more classic than this cash-only diner breakfast, with more waffle and french toast toppings than you can put down in one sitting. Leslie Knope would be proud.
Socials Cafe: This Main St. cafe serves up a wonderful lunch menu, but also features a rotating case of incredible muffins, cakes, and more. Plus, check out their extensive list of specialty espressos!
Spanish Street Farmacy: Enjoy a true farm-to-table experience in Downtown Cape Girardeau, where everything is local and homemade. Ask for the quiche flavor of the day.
Trio: It’s the only plant-based restaurant around serving waffle pops – the smoothie menu is tantalizing as well.
Happy Galentine’s Day! I hope it involves some incredible friendships and lots of waffles!
