Stories, things to do, and one of a kind tips from downtown Cape Girardeau.
Meet Our Board: Dawn Dauer

Old Town Cape, Inc. currently has a 15-member Board of Directors, and we believe it’s time you meet them! Get to know Dawn Dauer below.

Tell us a bit about yourself (job, family, hobbies, etc.)

My name is Dawn Dauer, and I am the Chief Banking Officer for The Bank of Missouri. My husband, L.A., and I live in Cape Girardeau and have been active in the community for many years through Cape First Church and various organizations.

What is your current role on the OTC Board and how long you have served?

I am currently a member of the OTC Cape Board and have served on the board since 2013. I began as a committee member for the economic vitality committee and enjoyed it a lot and was honored when I was asked to serve on the board.

What special perspective/qualities do you believe you bring to the Board?

I didn’t grow up in Cape Girardeau, but we would always come to Cape Girardeau to shop and it always held a special place to me, and I can remember visiting the downtown with my mom. I think bringing a perspective of respecting the legacy of the downtown of the past while being entrepreneurial minded for the future gives me a way to help the board.

What do you love most about Downtown Cape?

What’s not to love about downtown? I love the people, the food, the boutiques. I love that everyone has a story to share and there is such a collaborative spirit in the downtown. I love that people take pride in their businesses, and I think that makes it so unique. It’s hard to just pick one thing. I just really love Downtown Cape!

Where is your favorite place to go when you’re downtown?

My favorite place to go is the river. There is something so mighty yet calming. Walking around the entire downtown area just feels like a great neighborhood to belong to. I love the way people smile through the windows, step out to say hello, and the inviting sign boards that people place on the sidewalks. It’s like things come alive when you walk around and it just brings you in.

What’s your favorite Old Town Cape event?

The Christmas Parade is my favorite event. I know it takes a lot of work and organization to do, but I love seeing the smiles on the faces of the kids when you pass out candy canes and the way the community pulls together (rain, shine, or even the bitter cold) to support the event. I also remember collecting the Christmas ornaments with my mom even when I was in high school. Christmas in Downtown Cape Girardeau is truly magical and full of good memories.
