Old Town Cape, Inc. currently has a 15-member Board of Directors, and we believe it’s time you meet them! Get to know Kent Zickfield below.
Tell us a bit about yourself (job, family, hobbies, etc.)
I own Zickfield’s Jewelry and Gifts, a family business that was established in 1939. I am extremely fortunate to work with my wife of nearly 40 years, Vicki, my son William, and my daughter Wendi. I’m also a certified gemologist as well as a master jeweler. We are a very sports-oriented family, and we enjoy all sorts of sporting activities especially our boat as well as gardening and working on our historic home. We also very much enjoy spending time with our nine grand-kids and hope to do a little more traveling in the near future.
What is your current role on the OTC Board and how long you have served?
Right now, I am a board member and I believe I have served about 17 years.
Why did you choose to join the OTC Board?
I have always believed it is important to be involved in the downtown business district and to help it grow and improve in any way I can contribute. That is why I am also a member of the CID board and Redevelopment Corporation.
What special perspective/qualities do you believe you bring to the Board?
Having been involved in the downtown business area since 1968, I think I provide a unique historical perspective and knowledge that can be of special value to the board.
What do you love most about Downtown Cape?
I love the history and uniqueness that only a downtown business district can provide. For example, one of the buildings we own was the former Lyric Theatre, another the Glenn Mercantile Company. Owning buildings that have this much historical significance in a community only happens in a downtown.
Where is your favorite place to go when you’re downtown?
My favorite place downtown is the riverfront. It is a beautiful living entity, constantly changing and evolving, and you never know what you might see there.
What’s your favorite Old Town Cape event?
Has to be the Christmas Parade. It is so much fun for everyone who either participates or attends and really set the tone for the season of Christmas.
