Meet Our Board: Kody Thompson

Old Town Cape, Inc. currently has a 15-member Board of Directors, and we believe it’s time you meet them! Get to know Kody Thompson below.

Tell us a bit about yourself (job, family, hobbies, etc.)
I’ve been an agency owner for American Family Insurance for 6+ years and have been affiliated with American Family Insurance for over 7 years. My wife Jessie and I have a wonderful 2-year old girl named Gemma. In my spare time, I like to renovate homes, do outdoor activities, and be with my family.

What is your current role on the OTC Board and how long you have served?
I have been involved with OTC since 2014. I have served on the Organization Committee as both a committee member and for the past few years I have been the Chair. I also serve on the Board going on 2 years. As well as being a volunteer when needed.

Why did you choose to join the OTC Board?
I fell in love with Downtown Cape when I opened my agency on Broadway Street in 2014. I knew I wanted to make a difference in the area. The Board role was something that I thought could aid in the continuance of improving downtown and is the least I could do for the downtown community.

What special perspective/qualities do you believe you bring to the Board?
I think that not having my business any longer in downtown gives me the outside perspective for the board. This allows me to see what could draw people to downtown a little better. It also showed me how much I love Downtown Cape. Just like the old quote says, “Distance Makes the Heart Grow Fonder.”

What do you love most about Downtown Cape?
Downtown has its own unique culture and is very diverse. I love interacting with the businesses and the people that are in our downtown.

Where is your favorite place to go when you’re downtown?
I spend time at various places, it just depends on the time of day and the circumstances. Throughout the week you can find me at a coffee shop in the morning, many of the restaurants for lunch, and several places for after-work cocktails. To pick a favorite place is next to impossible. The downtown as a whole is my favorite place to be.

What’s your favorite Old Town Cape event?
All of the events are a wonderful! If I had to pick one it would have to be the Cape Riverfront Market. We make this our family time. Most Saturdays you will see my wife Jessie, my daughter Gemma and myself at the market.
