Brand new this year, various #DowntownCG businesses are hosting an event on Saturday, April 27th from 10am-2pm, called Caffeinated in Cape. I personally cannot wait for this event entirely dedicated to fueling my caffeine addiction! This local tour of coffees, teas, and chocolates is set up similar to a pub crawl, is family-friendly, and encourages attendees to explore locations in Downtown Cape that may be new to them. With Mississippi Mutts as one of the participating locations, this event is even dog friendly! However, since food is involved, each business has the right to choose whether or not dogs are allowed within the establishment. As if you needed any more encouragement, here are my top 5 reasons to attend Caffeinated in Cape:
#5 Be the First to Experience Caffeinated in Cape
This sampling of coffees, teas, and chocolates is the first time Downtown Cape will see an event like this revolving entirely around caffeine. Inspired by the Coffee Crawl in Maplewood, MO, Jocelyn Anderson, owner of Downtown Cape business Bloom Studio & Gifts, fell in love with the event and wanted to bring something similar to our community. The ultimate goal is to make this an annual event that continues to grow and get better each year. So come on out and be a part of the first in what will hopefully become a top event in our community.
#4 It’s Only $5!
$5.00 is about the same price as a large coffee, so instead of spending your $5 on a single cup, come out to 7 locations and try all kinds of different coffees (your choices of teas and chocolates are also included in that price!). Make it a fun, affordable girls’ day, which is what I’m planning on doing. Even us poor college students can afford this ticket price. Buy your tickets now online before they run out, but if there are still some left, you can buy tickets the day of at the check-in location at the Catapult Creative House.
#3 Enjoy Beautiful Downtown Cape Girardeau
With the flood wall closed and sand-bagged at the moment, it may feel like Cape is missing its focal point. However, there are still so many beautiful and unique areas in Downtown Cape to enjoy! Just this month, the public art sculptures along Broadway have been changed out for the 2019 Exhibit. There’s a list of all of the pieces on the Art Council of Southeast Missouri’s website; try to find all seven as you walk and sip coffee! If paintings are your preferred art media, then check out the newly updated alleyway between C.P. McGinty Jewelers and Threadz on Main Street. The artwork of local artist Malcolm McCrae showcases Cape-related monuments in a fun and vibrant display!
If you prefer to drink your morning coffee outside like I do, you will love the First Presbyterian Church’s newly constructed Peace Park. Located on Broadway between Lorimier and Spanish street, this natural oasis was created as a gift to the public to rest and meditate, with sculptures created by SEMO students coming in the future. Once refreshed in the shade, trek uphill from the park to the Common Pleas Courthouse. There you can get a sneak peak of all of the improvements to Ivers Square! Check out the progress on the Ivers statue, new seating around the fountain, and updates to the gazebo where Tunes at Twilight is held!
#2 Explore Local Businesses Unique to Cape Girardeau
Not only does Cape have one-of-a-kind public spaces, the local businesses have just as much character! 13 local businesses are pairing up (Baristas will be featured in 2 locations) with one as a host and the other as the caffeine-provider. Event-goers will check-in at Catapult Creative House and then will be let loose to explore businesses as they please. You can find a list of the businesses on the event flyer or on the website where you can buy tickets. Who knows, you may just find your new favorite boutique or place to get treats (or your doggo’s new favorite place)!
***Plus, a little birdie told me that businesses may be offering special sales and promotions exclusive to Caffeinated at Cape event-goers!!
#1 Coffee, Tea, and Chocolate…duh!
I know that you are bound to love at least one of these delicacies, if not all three (like me)! Each coffee, tea, and chocolate business will bring their own unique specialties complimented by their host location. For example, Bon Bons of Cape Girardeau, who will be hosted by Bloom Studio & Gifts, is bringing tea and desserts. Bloom will also be offering samples of their flavored sugar cubes to try with the tea (which I have been dying to try; check these sugar cubes out while you’re at Caffeinated in Cape or beforehand on their Facebook page)! I would also recommend following all of the involved businesses on Facebook in case they give a preview of the goods they are bringing to the event.
Caffeinated in Cape will be a great springtime event to get outdoors and enjoy the beautiful city we live in. I hope to see all of you caffeine enthusiasts there!
For updates, go follow the Caffeinated in Cape event page on Facebook (which also includes a link to purchase tickets)! Tickets can also be purchased on Eventbrite.com or here!
