About Our CID
The Downtown Cape Girardeau Community Improvement District was established through a petition process endorsed by city council in May of 2014 with revenue from the approved ½ cent sales tax beginning January 2015. It has a 7 member board to oversee its direction.
The board has contracted with Old Town Cape, Inc. to deliver the approved services.
The biggest percentage of the budget is spent on making downtown clean and attractive, coordinating things like additional litter and trash pick-up, beautification, and holiday decorations.
In addition, a portion of the budget is spent to improve the safety and perception of safety in downtown.
And finally, a percentage is spent on helping promote downtown and making it a vibrant and active environment.
Take a look at the breakdown below.
