This is an ongoing blog series to celebrate International Women’s Day! Each day this week, we will be highlighting a female business owner in #DowntownCG, hearing their stories and advice, and what it means to them to have a day set aside to recognize women around the globe. The questions asked are mostly the same, but the answers are as unique as the ladies themselves, so be sure to come back each day to gain even more wisdom from the women of Downtown.

What inspired you to run a business?

I grew up around extremely strong females, and it was always something that I pictured myself doing. I was always someone who went against the crowd, and I never wanted to work for somebody else. I’ve always felt like I have a lot of ideas, and things I wanted to implement, and the past employment experiences I’ve had haven’t helped me spread my wings. So it was more important for me to do my own thing and march to the beat of my own drum. I really enjoy developing other people and their passions as well as helping them grow and learn. That’s another reason why I wanted a business with a lot of employees. To me, the most exciting thing is to see someone start at a certain point and then help them reach their potential and achieve their goals.

Who was your biggest influence?

My grandma. She was the most wonderful, strong, fierce, fearless woman I’ve ever met and I aspire to be her every day. She was a boss until the day she died!

What is your favorite part about owning a business?

Working with all of my team and helping them realize and achieve their goals. When I see them grow and learn, it’s so much more gratifying than if I did it. I love to see people branch out and make things happen.

What do you think is a woman’s greatest superpower?

Women are absolutely the height of creation! We give life, we make life, we multitask. We can handle everything and not even break a sweat. We’re definitely a force to be reckoned with! And as a business owner, you have to be so many things. I have to be a service provider, a friend, an adviser, a bookkeeper, a customer service representative. At the end of the day, you have to remember that learning how to balance everything and give your best in every area of your life is the most important thing.

What does International Women’s Day mean to you?

Historically, women have been viewed as less than. But this is an opportunity to say, we’re here and we’re not going anywhere! We deserve equality and we’re going to get it. And we’re going to teach our daughters that it’s important to stand up for who they are and what they believe in at any cost. I’ve got a little girl at home, two boys, and another girl on the way, and I’ll tell you what, I’m raising some great men and some fearless women!

Check back tomorrow to learn about another incredible female business owner!
