Stories, things to do, and one of a kind tips from downtown Cape Girardeau.
Meet Briana

We are so excited to have Briana Schoen on our team in the Work-Study position! Get to know her below.

My name is Briana, and I am a graduate student at Southeast Missouri State University. I’ve lived in Cape my whole life and have grown to love its history. Outside of work I love to spend time with my dogs and enjoy caring for my houseplant collection also.

After completing my undergraduate degree at SEMO and studying everything that Downtown Cape holds, I grew a greater appreciation of the town’s history. I would say I am most excited to work in my favorite, and the most historic, part of Cape and continue to learn about the life of downtown. The historic rows of buildings, including businesses and homes, right alongside the river are one of my favorite parts of Downtown. I love walking the main blocks and stopping in all of the shops, seeing them succeed and grow is so great.

There are many people throughout history that I admire for their accomplishments, but I would say that with my passion for equality and civil rights, I would be honored to sit and talk with Martin Luther King Jr. about how his belief in love and peace remained throughout so many struggles. Unwavering in his beliefs, he was able to stay true to his message of achieving equality through peace when faced with such adversity, which is something to admire in a world where so many people change to better fit in and where violence is so present.

Like historic figures, I also have many favorite quotes, but if I had to choose one, it would be

“Girls should learn history and make it” -Malala Yousafzai.
