Old Town Cape, Inc. currently has a 17-member Board of Directors, and we believe it’s time you meet them! Get to know one of our newest members, Brenda Newbern, below.
Tell me a bit about yourself (job, family, hobbies, etc.)
I am the Executive Director for VisitCape, the Cape Girardeau Convention & Visitors Bureau. I love to walk and attend sports events. I am an avid Redhawk fan!
What is your current role on the OTC Board and how long have you served?
I am an ex-officio member of the Board. As a new board member, I am just trying to get my footing and figure out where I will be able to contribute best to the committee.
Why did you choose to join the OTC Board?
Old Town Cape and VisitCape are aligned in our goals and passions for the city of Cape Girardeau! The more I can bring events and leisure visitors to the city that will support the businesses and residents the better we are. Since we are often collaborating on many of the same projects, it just made sense that I would be on the board.
What special perspective/qualities do you believe you bring to the Board?
I believe I bring with me the advantage of having worked with many groups and events to bring them to Cape. Also, coming with a hotel sales background gives me a very broad perspective and expertise on visitors.
What do you love most about Downtown Cape?
The riverfront, Ivers Square, and the Common Pleas Courthouse. What is not to like about Downtown Cape!?
Where is your favorite place to go when you’re downtown?
A local restaurant, ice cream, and the riverfront. Sometimes in that order, sometimes reverse!
What’s your favorite Old Town Cape event?
The one that I am attending at the time! There is not a favorite – it is the excitement of having something new and different to experience each time.
