Old Town Cape, Inc. currently has a 15-member Board of Directors, and we believe it’s time you meet them! Get to know Randi Dirnberger below.
Tell me a bit about yourself (job, family, hobbies, etc.)
My husband and I have lived in Downtown Cape for 6 and 1/2 years, and my husband is a Cape Girardeau native. We have two kids, a 5-year-old son Charlie, and a 1-year-old daughter Gracie who keep us busy and entertained. I work as an Occupational Therapy Assistant at Life Care Center here in Cape Girardeau, and my husband and I own Katy O’Ferrells Irish Pub in Downtown Cape. When we are not in Downtown Cape we like to travel, especially during the summer months because we are water people!
What is your current role on the OTC Board and how long have you served?
I am going into my second year on the OTC Board and am really enjoying my time so far! In January 2021 I became the Board Secretary and also serve on the Executive Board!
Why did you choose to join the OTC Board?
Before I joined the Board, I was the Chair of the Promotions Committee, so I have been involved in downtown events for several years. I love to introduce people to a side of the city they may not have ventured to before, so I started getting involved nearly 5 years ago to be a part of bringing people Downtown! I landed on the Promotions Committee as it fit my personality and goals best and have really enjoyed taking on new roles as a volunteer throughout that time.
What special perspective/qualities do you believe you bring to the Board?
From serving on the Promotions Committee for almost 5 years and attending so many Downtown events, along with owning a restaurant in the Downtown community, I bring both the perspective of a consumer as well as the perspective of a local merchant. My husband and I not only have a business downtown but we are also raising a family within the district, this provides various angles on how to engage people and bring them to the downtown community!
What do you love most about Downtown Cape?
So many things! I love that I can walk to local shops and restaurants, then finish with ice cream by the river! I have also been very impressed in 2020 with how the local community has come together and continued to support our downtown community in so many ways to keep it thriving. It shows that the downtown is really the heart of our community. You feel the sense of community when you are downtown and see familiar faces, and there’s so much history here as a river town to continue to explore.
Where is your favorite place to go when you’re downtown?
Obviously Katy O’Ferrell’s! My favorite dish is chicken stuffed boxty with a Katy Irish Red and an Irish Coffee when it’s cold outside! My favorite place to shop is the Indie House. I can get plants, clothes, and gifts in one place from the sweetest staff!
What’s your favorite Old Town Cape event?
It’s a tie between the Cape Riverfront Market and Tunes at Twilight – those are the best things about summer in Downtown Cape! We have a truly unique market with not only food but locally-made products and gifts, and there’s nothing like ending the workweek in the summer sitting on a blanket and listening to live music!
